Colruyt Group kondigde eerder al aan dat het dochterbedrijf Spar Retail naar Mechelen verhuist. Intussen zijn de plannen concreet en wordt de omvang van de investeringen duidelijk. “Colruyt heeft zopas een bouwaanvraag ingediend om de gebouwen van het voormalige FM Logistic op het bedrijventerrein Mechelen-Zuid om te vormen tot het distributiecentrum voor Spar. Dit is goed voor een investering van 60 miljoen euro”, zegt schepen van Economie Caroline Gennez (sp.a).
De start van de werken is gepland voor dit najaar, zodat het distributiecentrum in 2014 op volle toeren kan draaien. “Spar Retail zal 740 mensen tewerkstellen in Mechelen, waarvan 325 bedienden en 415 arbeiders”, aldus Caroline Gennez. Opnieuw kiest een belangrijk bedrijf ervoor om te verhuizen naar Mechelen. “De centrale ligging is onze voornaamste troef en die bereikbaarheid moeten we blijven verzekeren. Ook het ondernemingsvriendelijk klimaat speelt een belangrijke rol, denk maar aan de digitale dienstverlening zoals de online aangifte voor de belasting op bedrijfsruimten. Het online ondernemersloket kunnen we nog verder uitbouwen.”
Vorige maand kondigde het groene energiebedrijf Eneco ook al de verhuizing naar Mechelen aan. Deze groeiende speler op de energiemarkt vestigt zich in september in de gebouwen van Agfa in Battel. Eneco kiest voor duurzame materialen bij de inrichting van de kantoren en plant ook groene investeringen zoals zonnepanelen en elektrische laadpalen.
