EVA staat voor Elektrische Voertuigen in Actie, een initiatief van publieke en private partners om elektrisch rijden te stimuleren. Eandis is één van de belangrijkste trekkers en EVA heeft ook de steun van de Vlaamse overheid. “EVA wil nog dit voorjaar in Mechelen twee oplaadstations voor elektrische voertuigen bouwen. Dat zijn grote platformen met meerdere oplaadpalen, voor elektrische auto’s maar ook voor scooters en fietsen. Het gaat om een proefproject waarbij ook een testpubliek zal worden opgevolgd om meer inzichten te verwerven rond het gebruik van elektrische voertuigen”, zegt schepen van Mobiliteit Karel Geys (sp.a).
Tot voor kort viel de verkoop van elektrische auto’s nog tegen, maar volgens de prognose van de Belgische automobielfederatie Febiac wordt 2012 het jaar van de grote doorbraak. Dit vooral omdat verschillende merken nieuwe en verbeterde modellen op de markt brengen. Daarnaast is ook de verwachting dat het aantal laadpunten sterk zal toenemen. Tijdens het voorbije Autosalon viel de belangstelling voor de nieuwste generatie elektrische auto’s dan ook op. Karel Geys: “Op enkele dagen tijd werden er al meer elektrische auto’s verkocht dan in heel 2011. Ook de elektrische brommers en fietsen kennen een opmars en zijn steeds meer in het straatbeeld te zien. Met de realisatie van twee grote oplaadplatformen willen we inspelen op deze tendens.”
EVA verzamelt verschillende spelers om gezamenlijk de grootste proeftuin voor elektrische voertuigen te ontwikkelen. Zowel ondernemers, onderzoekers als overheden maken deel uit van dit open platform dat zich richt op innovatie. Naast Eandis zijn ook Telenet, 4iS, Blue Corner, Federauto, VUB en UGent betrokken. De bedoeling is om proefprojecten op te zetten waarbij publieke laadstations worden gebouwd om het gebruik en mogelijke toepassingen uit te testen. Er zijn immers nog heel wat technische, infrastructurele en economische uitdagingen en EVA wil op deze manier een antwoord vinden. Ook slimme toepassingen worden uitgeprobeerd, zoals de mogelijkheid om van op afstand via smartphone na te gaan of de batterij van je geparkeerde auto intussen is opgeladen.
Mechelen heeft een overeenkomst gesloten met EVA om de realisatie van deze oplaadpunten op het openbaar domein mogelijk te maken. De stad zal de locaties aanbieden en de nodige contracten afsluiten om oplaadpalen en stroom te voorzien. “In Mechelen zullen we 2 oplaadstations voorzien met telkens één laadpaal voor auto’s en bestelwagens en één laadpaal voor elektrische fietsen en bromfietsen. Daarnaast komt er een slimme meter die alle gegevens bijhoudt en een Wi-Fi hotspot zodat je ook kan surfen terwijl je je fiets oplaadt. De exacte locaties moeten we nog bepalen, mogelijkheden zijn bv. de Vijfhoek, de Veemarkt of randparkings zoals de Zandpoortvest. Binnen enkele maanden kunnen we al beginnen met de bouw van de oplaadeilanden”, aldus Karel Geys.
Om van elektrische voertuigen een succes te maken, is het noodzakelijk om voldoende laadpunten te voorzien. In 2010 had Mechelen al een Belgische primeur met de lancering van de eerste oplaadpaal in een ondergrondse parking. Ook nu wil de stad een voortrekkersrol spelen. “We hebben het autoluwe gebied uitgebreid, we kiezen voor een duurzaam mobiliteitsbeleid en we investeren in groene energie. Op 1 april organiseren we in samenwerking met Technopolis de Ecomobiliteitsdag, een evenement waarbij iedereen kan kennismaken met elektrische en hybride voertuigen. De bouw van twee oplaadstations sluit mooi aan bij dit verhaal. Hopelijk vinden steeds meer Mechelaars de weg naar elektrische voertuigen want zo beperken we de uitstoot van CO2 en fijn stof”, besluit Karel Geys.
