Sinds vandaag nam Christiaan Backx de bevoegdheid Openbare Werken over van Marc Hendrickx. Christiaan Backx zal in eerste instantie de uitgestippelde lijn van zijn collega en voorganger Bart De Nijn verderzetten, maar zal ook eigen accenten leggen . Zo zal hij de netheid in de stad verder opdrijven en wil hij inzetten op het degelijk onderhoud van fiets- en voetpaden.
“Ik verplaats me in de binnenstad zelf meestal met de fiets. Dat maakt dat sommige pijnpunten meer opvallen. Als we mensen in onze binnenstad en daarbuiten willen motiveren om de wagen te laten staan, dan zijn vlot berijdbare en veilige fietspaden een must.” aldus kersvers schepen van Openbare Werken Christiaan Backx (N-VA).
Tering naar de nering
Tijdens de budgetbesprekingen voor 2016 lag de nadruk voor Openbare Werken op enkele evidente aandachtspunten. Uiteraard zijn er investeringen, maar daarnaast zetten wij ook volgend jaar weer meer in op de netheid en het onderhoud van onze stad. We slagen erin om op belangrijke posten te besparen. Het geld dat vrij komt wordt aangewend op plaatsen waar het voor de Mechelaar het meeste nut heeft.
Zo koos het schepencollege ervoor om de leasing wagens die gebruikt worden voor het vervoer van burgemeester en schepenen op te zeggen. “Als wij de burgers vragen de tering naar de nering te zetten, moeten wij uiteraard hetzelfde doen. We bespaarden in 2013 al fors op de eigen werking. Maar met het schrappen van de leasingwagens gaan we nog een stap verder,” aldus eerste schepen Marc Hendrickx (N-VA). Het bespaarde geld wordt rechtstreeks geïnvesteerd in het onderhoud van ons openbaar domein.
De Mechelse veegvloot
Het is een bekend gezicht ondertussen, de vloot aan veeg- en kuismachines die door de stad heen zoeven om alles net te houden. En de inzet loont, zo blijkt uit de cijfers van de stadsmonitor over de netheid.
“Niet alleen blijkt dat de stad netter is, de Mechelaars ervaren het ook zo. Maar het blijft een belangrijk aandachtpunt. Als wij als stad investeren in een aantrekkelijk en goed onderhouden openbaar domein is het voor de Mechelaar ook een stimulans om hetzelfde te doen,” aldus schepen Christiaan Backx ( N-VA).
Daarom investeert de stad in 2016 2.5 miljoen euro in de netheid van haar openbaar domein. Zo worden er maar liefst 6 nieuwe gluttons aangekocht waarmee vuil opgezogen wordt. Ook een extra uitrusting voor nat vegen, voor hardnekkig vuil, moet helpen bij het proper houden van de Mechelse straten. Tot slot wordt de vloot uitgebreid met een machine om kauwgum en graffiti te verwijderen.
Ook de uren waarop onze mensen ingezet worden om de straten proper te houden, worden uitgebreid. Mechelen zal dag in dag uit, ook tijdens weekends, van ’s morgens tot ’s avonds op orde gehouden worden.
Extra controles
Extra machines en manuren zijn één aspect van het gevoerde beleid maar daarnaast zullen de controles op het naleven van de regels verhoogd worden. Hier zijn trouwens de burgers, die zich wel aan de regels houden tevens vragende partij. Zo zal er nog meer ingezet worden op het sanctioneren van sluikstorten. Maar ook bij nuts- en bouwwerken werken zal na uitvoering ervan nog scherper worden toegezien dat het openbaar domein in een degelijke staat wordt achtergelaten.
Horeca, aannemers en evenementorganisatoren worden aangemaand zelf te zorgen voor de opkuis en het proper achterlaten van het openbaar domein.
Investeren tegen wateroverlast
Wateroverlast is een teistering voor verschillende straten in Mechelen. Een nuttige en broodnodige investering dus ook in 2016. Alles bij elkaar wordt zo’n 1.7 miljoen euro vrijgemaakt voor het bestrijden van de wateroverlast in Hombeek. Daarnaast koopt de stad nog een machine aan om wortels uit de straatkolken te verwijderen. Deze kan ingezet worden in de gehele stad.
Ook voor de Baron Empainlaan wordt gewerkt aan een oplossing voor de wateroverlast. De stad start immers zowel voor de B. Empainlaan als voor de Expoelstraat dossiers op. In eerste instantie zal er overlegd worden met Aquafin.
Her-aanleg en renovatie
Afgelopen jaar kozen de inwoners van de wijk Nekkerspoel uit een aantal prioriteiten voor de her-aanleg van de Grote Nieuwedijkstraat. Daarom voorziet de stad in 2016 de start van fase 2 van de her-aanleg van de Grote Nieuwedijkstraat. Daarvoor werd 940.000 euro vrijgemaakt.
Voor de renovatie en uitbreiding van Leliëndaal in Hombeek zette de stad dan weer 1.650.000 euro opzij. De bewoners kregen in het najaar van 2015 de kans om zelf te beslissen over de herbestemming van het oude dorpshuis.
Vaste pakketten
Naar jaarlijkse gewoonte voorziet de stad ook vaste pakketten voor het aanleggen van fiets- en voetpaden, herstellen van het openbaar domein en asfaltering.
