Het WZC Den Beuk in Boom zorgde deze week voor leuk nieuws: met een 101- en twee 100-jarigen werden er heel wat kaarsjes uitgeblazen. Een groot feest kon niet, maar de drie kranige eeuwelingen zitten wel in één bubbel en konden dus samen van de grote taart genieten.
De oudste bewoonster is Maria Genyn, bij ieder bekend als Mathilde of Tant Mathilde. Zij werd dus 101. Omwille van haar beroep als kapster en haar voorliefde voor het dansen is Mathilde een zeer bekend persoon in de Rupelstreek en bij uitstek het voorbeeld van een actieve en fiere gepensioneerde. Steeds paraat om te dansen, een babbeltje te doen of naar ‘Den Hobby’ te gaan, draagt ze met haar aanwezigheid bij tot de warme sfeer in het WZC; zoals ze dat vroeger ook in haar huis deed.
Josephine Corremans en Pauline Verlinden werden 100. Josephine is thuis geboren in Niel in de Albertstraat, haar eerste man overleed al in de jaren ’50. Op haar 30ste hertrouwde ze. Uit haar eerste huwelijk heeft ze een zoon, uit haar tweede twee dochters. Josephine had vroeger een klein winkeltje in lusters en allerlei kleine prulletjes en woonde boven de winkel. Ook vandaag nog toont ze zich een heel sterke vrouw die veel heeft meegemaakt, al schrikt ze er zelf van dat ze al zo oud is mogen worden. Pauline heeft altijd in Rumst gewoond, haar ouders zijn vroeg gestorven waardoor ze sinds haar 16 jaar wees is en bij haar zus in Terhagen ging wonen. Op haar 22-ste trouwde, waarna ze in de steenbakkerijen werkte en ging dienen. Ze heeft ook gewerkt bij koekjesfabriek ‘De Valck’ en had nadien samen met haar man een ‘biscuiterie’ en dat tot aan hun pensioen. Pauline woont sinds haar 92 jaar in Den Beuk en heeft heel haar familie overleefd: haar zus, de kinderen van haar zus…Opmerkelijk: ze heeft in het voorjaar corona opgelopen, maar ook dit heeft ze overwonnen.
Dat het goed wonen is in het WZC Den Beuk is duidelijk: volgend jaar mogen we als alles goed gaat nog eens twee andere honderdjarigen in de bloemetjes zetten.
