“We ontvingen het laatste jaar heel wat meldingen, voornamelijk over lokale mobiliteitsproblemen. Het leek ons als vereniging die de belangen van de bedrijven behartigt onze taak om hier iets mee te doen. Door alle betrokken partijen samen rond de tafel te brengen, verwachten we snellere en betere resultaten dan via de traditionele mailpolemieken“, aldus Nico Van Daele, voorzitter BMZ.
Mechelaar Koen Sips begeleidde het constructief gesprek met de zeer gewaardeerde inbreng van de aanwezige mobiliteitsactoren. De problemen die de bedrijven aankaartten, werden onderverdeeld in 3 categorieën: duurzaam woon-werkverkeer, verkeersveiligheid en vrachtwagens en logistiek. Hoewel de problemen volgens deze categorieën werden besproken, waren de meeste ervan echter gerelateerd aan veiligheid. Daarmee tonen de bedrijven, na de succesvolle ‘Grote Schoonmaak’ in september (een actie waarbij de bedrijven samen zwerfvuil verzamelden), nogmaals hun betrokkenheid met werknemers en omwonenden. De betrokkenheid van de stad en de politie is echter een teleurstelling: ondanks eerder bevestigde deelname, verontschuldigde men zich last minute.
“Dat de stad en de politie zich verontschuldigden, begrijp ik eerlijk gezegd niet. De stad is zelfs vertegenwoordigd in het bestuur van BMZ, en beschouwen we als onze belangrijkste partner. Jammer dat we nu gevraagd worden om gewoon verslag uit te brengen; dat staat haaks op de aanpak die we voor ogen hadden en is niet bevorderlijk. Maar men verzekerde ons wel er iets mee te zullen doen. Wat, dat weten we niet, maar wij zullen dit niet loslaten”, aldus Benjamin De Bruyn, bedrijventerreinmanager BMZ.
Het bestuur van BMZ neemt zich alvast voor om de verdere stappen te integreren in de doelstellingen voor 2018, en zal er alles aan doen om mobiliteitsverbeteringen te realiseren voor haar leden.
